COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Ever have lots of extra energy? Maybe even too much for indoors?

Lots of kids got that way this past Spring. In fact there was a whole Sports League full of kids with extra energy here in town, the Colorado Springs Homeschool Sports League. A whole League full of kids — now that’s a lot of energy!

Founded in the Fall of 2015, the Colorado Springs Homeschool Sports League is the only organization available for local homeschool families to gather together for team sports, like soccer, football, basketball and volleyball, plus individual sports like hiking, track and swimming.

Without regular access to a school gym, homeschoolers must often be creative when it comes to Physical Education (PE). Many homeschooling families join martial arts programs, because those offer one of the few options for an entire family to be physically active together, and many martial arts studios offer family discounts.

But what if you want to compete with your friends in a friendly game out on the field? Many Colorado Springs Homeschool Sports League players certainly did these past few months! They were getting all revved up to play another season of Spring Soccer.

Then Colorado Governor Polis asked all the large groups in Colorado to take a break and not meet up together for a little while. It was to help prevent folks from getting sick from the newly discovered disease called COVID-19.

That was hard! Everybody had their team uniforms and their soccer balls, and had been thinking about the positions they wanted to play, like goalie or forward or halfback. But then, just like that, all the soccer games were suddenly cancelled, and no one knew what was going to happen next!

But no one wanted to get folks sick, so the kids found other things to do with their energy, like play in the yard or spend time with pets or exercise. That was a few months ago, and do you know what to do if you can’t play Spring Soccer like you hoped?

Play Fall Soccer!

That’s right! The Colorado Springs Homeschool Sports League is back in action with a big Fall Season now underway. And it’s a much bigger season than ever, due to increased interest in homeschool.

Many parents got a taste of homeschooling in the Spring when schools turned to distance learning in order to help families shelter in place. Now, many of those same parents are ready to homeschool because they already worked out many of the logistics and now can customize lessons according to their child’s needs.

It makes it easier if they can get together with other homeschool families out on the field, too, for sports like soccer, and the League makes that easy. There’s a lot of energy out there to expend, and so it should be the best soccer season yet. Score one for being careful and patient, even if you have lots of energy! …⚽
