Pike Road baseball team wins travel tournament
MILLBROOK, Ala. — There’s a new travel baseball team in town! The Pike Road Ironbirds are here and proving they came to play. The Pike Road Ironbirds are boasting a season record of 9-2 including two championships, one at a tournament in Prattville and another at a tournament in Auburn. The traveling baseball team is composed of 9-11 year old boys from the Pike Road area. The team went undefeated at their most recent tournament (October 17 and 18.). After two additional innings the team were finally able to defeat the Triton Rays to claim the Auburn Tournament championship.
The Ironbirds are a brand new travel ball team but some of them have been playing together for several years. Their chemistry is undeniable. Head Coach Bobby Dunlap said, “The fact that most of these kids have been playing together now for several years and have all been coached by the same coaches has created the cohesiveness the team needs to be successful at the highest level. The more the kids know what to expect from their coaches and each other the better the team gets as a whole.“ The Ironbirds have two more tournaments this year and hope to improve their record.
