Reno’s Smerdon staying home, will run for Nevada Wolfpack
RENO, Nev. — Reno High School senior, Penelope Smerdon announced earlier this month that she will run for the University of Nevada Reno cross country and track & field teams.
Smerdon has won the past three Northern 4A regional cross country titles and she won state last year. In the 5000-meter run, her personal best is 18 minutes, 6 seconds, which would put her at seventh all-time on the Nevada freshman list and 33rd overall all-time at Nevada.
Smerdon also has a time of 11:21 in the 3,000 meters and 5:10 in the 1,600-meter run.
