Wilson, Jones lead No. 12 Aggie women past No. 25 Texas

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Aaliyah Wilson scored five of her season-high 17 points in the fourth quarter, including a free throw with six seconds left and No. 12 Texas A&M held off No. 25 Texas 66-61 in a nail-biter Sunday night.

N’dea Jones added 16 points and 10 rebounds for the Aggies (4-0), Jordan Nixon scored 11 and Wilson added eight rebounds.

The teams swapped the lead four times in the fourth quarter before a collection of fan cutouts and piped-in crowd noise in the 16,540-seat Frank Erwin Center for the reboot of this Big-12-SEC rivalry game after a six-year hiatus.

Texas A&M saw an 11-point lead evaporate in the third quarter and vanish entirely when the Longhorns Audrey Warren scored a jump shot off of a steal and tied the game at 51-51 early in the final period.

Jones scored twice on drives and Wilson added a jumper as Texas A&M battled past Texas early in the fourth quarter and surged ahead on a 10-0 run to lead 63-54 with four minutes left.

Joanne Allen-Taylor drained a 3, added two free throws and Celeste Taylor hit a layup to bring Texas right back, 63-61, with just under two minutes left.

Allen-Taylor finished with 12 points before fouling out with six seconds to go driving to the basket when Jones took a charge. Charli Collier led the Longhorns with 14 points and 12 rebounds, Warren scored 13.

The Aggies’ Alexis Morris, a transfer from Baylor and Rutgers was deemed eligible and made her first appearance Sunday. She scored six points in seven minutes and, with Wilson, closed the game with free throws in the last 16 seconds.
