Point guard Dillon Hunter commits to Baylor
WACO, Texas (BVM) — Scott Drew and the Baylor Bears basketball team are currently ranked No. 3 in the nation and hold a 22-2 overall record. They are dominating college basketball, and now they have another reason to be happy with their first signing from the Class of 2022.
Four-star point guard Dillon Hunter announced his commitment to Baylor earlier this month. Baylor was able to come out on top over schools such as Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech, and Wake Forest.
“I was looking for somewhere I could make it feel like home,” Hunter said in a radio interview. “Being able to feel that vibe from Baylor, it was very surreal.”
The Atlanta native is ranked 25th among all Class of 2022 recruits by ESPN, and he currently plays at Ypsi Prep Academy in Michigan. Before transferring to Ypsi, he played at Westlake High School in Atlanta. Transferring to Ypsi has allowed him to play alongside top recruits such as Emoni Bates, JaVauhn Hannah, and Shawn Phillips. Hunter is averaging 10 points this season, grabbing 4.1 rebounds and dishing out 4.7 assists.

As his prep career continues, his game on the court is already drawing comparison to some NBA players. One player specifically: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. Both are prolific scorers for their positions, and both and finish at the hoop. Hunter also has the ability to knock down a jump shot. But what stands out the most about Hunter’s game is how he can find his teammates on the floor. He can create plays for his teammates, and he always finds the open man. Hunter has shown that he can lead an offensive attack on the basketball court.

After this year, Hunter will have one more year of high school basketball left. But after that, the Bears will welcome Hunter with open arms.
“It felt like a family,” Hunter said. “Ever since they recruited me, they treated me like family, especially Coach Nu (Jared Nuness); that’s my guy right there. He was checking up on me almost every day. That’s what really [made it feel like] Baylor where I needed to be.”
