Cade Cunningham wins Big 12 Player of the Year

STILLWATER, Okla. (BVM) — Today it was announced that Oklahoma State freshman Cade Cunningham was awarded Big 12 Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year awards.

Cunningham is the fourth freshman to win both of these awards. The most recent player to do this was former Oklahoma State guard Marcus Smart. Other notable college players to win both awards were Michael Beasly (Kansas State) in 2007-08 and Kevin Durant (Texas) in 2006-07.

Cunningham led the Big 12 in scoring by averaging 19.7 points. He also averaged 6.3 rebounds and 3.5 assists. Cunningham has really done it all for this Cowboys squad this year and he has propelled them to the No. 12 spot in the Associated Press Poll.

To go along with his awards, Cunningham was also a unanimous selection to the All-Big 12 first team, the all-freshman team, and the all-newcomer team.

It’s truly been a special year for Cunningham the Oklahoma State basketball team. The Cowboys will match up with West Virginia on Thursday as they begin postseason play.
