Montgomery College men’s soccer ready to win again with return of head coach Pedro Braz

ROCKVILLE, Md. (BVM) — The Montgomery College (MC) Raptors men’s soccer team will kick off their 2020-21 season at home on April 3 with new head coach Pedro Braz leading the program. There are high performance expectations this season considering Braz’s coaching history with the MC Raptors from several years ago.

Braz, who was hired in November 2020, in-fact previously coached the MC Raptors for three consecutive years starting back in 2012. The team competed in the NJCAA Division III national championship under his guidance every single year until he left the program. Now, the team is looking to win the championship with Braz being back on the team again.

“I am very happy to have Pedro return to Montgomery College,” said MC Raptors Athletic Director Tarlouh Gasque in a statement. “Considering his accomplishments in his prior tenure at Montgomery College, I look forward to positive outcomes from men’s soccer.”

Aside from his accomplishments, Braz now brings diverse experiences that will help him coach from a different lens. In August 2020, he stepped down as the men’s head coach at Gallaudet University — a school for the deaf and hard of hearing. He led the team for five years before deciding that he wanted to return to MC with new potential.

“I will be forever grateful for my experiences working at such a unique institution,” Braz said in a statement. “There are no limits to what can be achieved when there is respect among a diverse group of individuals; regardless of ethnicity, background, religion and gender. It has played an instrumental role in my personal growth and career.”

The MC Raptors will play against Howard Community College as their first match-up under the new head coach this April. The season is expected to run through May 13 and so far there are no cancellations or postponements due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
