Lawton Eisenhower not bringing back Daniel Wall

LAWTON, Okla. (BVM) — Helping a sports program get back on its feet is a difficult thing for most coaches to do. No matter what level it is, coaches sometimes struggle for years to do it. But former head coach Daniel Wall helped the Eisenhower varsity girl basketball team make a name for itself.

Wall was the coach at Eisenhower for six seasons. But after an 8-8 season, Wall won’t be returning for the 2021-22 season.

Back in 2015, Wall was serving as an assistant for the varsity boys basketball team. Soon after, he took over the role of freshman girls basketball coach. Following that season, just before the 2015-16 season, Wall was named the head coach of the varsity girls team. He took over for former coach Jeff Mahoney.

It wasn’t until his second season as head coach that he led the Eagles to the state tournament. After a regular season with a losing record the year prior, Wall and the Eagles were one of the top teams in Oklahoma. In his next three seasons, he led the Eagles back to the state tournament. The Eagles advanced to the semifinals in 2019.

Wall’s had a lot of success on the court, but the bonds he’s formed with his former players are more meaningful to him than anything.

Wall leaves with an overall record of 68-80, according to MaxPreps. If he does decide to pursue another head coaching job, any school would be lucky to have him. For now, Wall is still a teacher and an assistant track coach at Eisenhower High School.
