Scorps track and field all-stars
SATELLITE BEACH, Fla. (BVM) — Both the boys and girls Satellite Beach Track and Field teams won the Satellite High Reggie Johnson Memorial meet, held on Friday, February 26th topping a field of over 25 teams.
Gabe Montague, a senior, ran the fastest time in the state for the1600 at the Reggie Johnson Memorial track meet. Gabe clocked 4:10 which is the number one all-time best mark by a Brevard runner. His time is number three in the nation this year. Last week he ran the state leading mark of 9:08 for 3200 meters. Joe Wester, also a senior, broke the school record in the 800 running a 1:54. The boys are ranked number one in the state as of March 3rd in 2a.
On the girls team there are four ranked in the top eight in the state in their events as of the writing of this article. Senior Katie Hibbard is ranked 6th in the state (2a) in the 800 meter run with a 2:26, Julia Lavrador, also a Senior, is ranked 3rd in the state in the 3200 meter run with 11:29 and 7th in the state in the 1600 meter of 5:25, and Freshman, Braelyn Wahy is ranked 7th in the state in the 3200 with an 11:58, and Senior, Izabelle Hays is ranked 7th in the High Jump with a height of 1.55 meters.
Upcoming meets are: Apr 2- Holy Trinity, Apr 9-Conference at Satellite, Apr 16-District at Satellite, May 1-Region at Satellite and May 7-State (tentative date).
