The Terps’ biggest ballplayer Chol Marial enters transfer portal

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (BVM) — Maryland basketball sophomore Chol Marial announced on March 31 his decision to enter the transfer portal. He came into the program as ESPN’s No. 60 player in the country and while at Maryland the 7-foot-2 center showed exactly why he deserved that ranking.

As a freshman, he appeared in 12 games and helped lead Maryland to the 2020 Big Ten Championship. This season, he made his first career 3-pointer which was against the University of Illinois, had his first career start on the hardwood against Mount St. Mary and he scored seven points vs. Old Dominion which set a new career-high.

Now Marial plans to take his talents elsewhere and in his transfer announcement on Twitter he wrote, “All love to Maryland and the amazing team and coaching staff.”

No matter where he ends up, Marial will likely make his decision with the same mindset he had two years ago with his commitment to the Terps. He chose to attend the school not only because he wanted to grow as a student and player, but also because he wanted to surround himself with good people so he could grow as an individual.

“When you choose a college, you’ve gotta choose the people you’re staying with for life,” Marial said in a 2019 video following his commitment to Maryland.
