Beauchemin is on his way to greatness

Alex Beauchemin is well on his way to becoming the greatest goaltender in Lasell men’s lacrosse history.  He is currently in the middle of what is being counted as his second year in his collegiate career.

Beauchemin’s freshman year was insane. During the first game of the season, Beauchemin entered in replacement of starting goalie Ryan Janovic who was not sharp in net surrendering seven goals on 15 shots on net. Beauchemin was spectacular, only surrendering three goals on eight shots and helped Lasell come back and win 12-10 over MIT.  This performance won Beauchemin the starting role, something that was his the rest of the year.  Beauchemin went 15-2 with a 6.55 goals-against average which was the best in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference.  Those 15 wins and GAA are a school record for the most and lowest in a single season in school history.  Despite this spectacular season, Beauchemin took the loss in the championship game to the Norwich Cadets.

His sophomore year was a year of redemption, but it started the wrong way. Beauchemin gave up 15 goals on 24 shots and lost the starting job the next game to Janovic, but quickly won it back when Janovic proved to be inefficient for the Lasers in the net. Janovic was shelled against Roger Williams giving up 12 goals on 17 shots. Beauchemin was stellar making 14 saves on 20 shots and showed he was back. In the next game against Plymouth St., Beauchemin made an incredible 16 saves on 22 shots including one in the dying seconds to help the Lasers pull off the upset. COVID-19 canceled the rest of the season and Beauchemin’s win total was now at 16.

During this current season, Beauchemin has started all five games for the Lasers with a current record of 3-2 and sits with 19 career wins. Beauchemin needs four more wins to tie the record for most career wins and five to break it.  The current record holder is Mark DeMieri who played for the Lasers from 2005-08.  There are five more games remaining in the regular-season schedule.  If Beauchemin can find a way to win all five games, the record is his and he will continue to cement his legacy in Laser’s lure.

Beauchemin has been insane for the Lasers. Even if one loss falls on Beauchemin, there’s always a full slate next year with more games on the schedule. Beauchemin has already made history and is well on his way to being the greatest.
