Steve Stone wins 500th game
HEBRON, Texas (BVM) — Head baseball coach Steve Stone has been coaching baseball at Hebron High School for 20-plus years, and just last week, he was able to win his 500th game as a head coach. Coach Stone started the program in 1999 when the Hebron first opened.
“The first few years at HHS were a struggle, as with any program just getting off the ground,” Coach Stone said in a release. “But those kids, the class that graduated in 2002, really laid the foundation for the program; and any kid that comes through now just lays one brick after another to add to it.”
Not only does Stone enjoy coaching baseball, but he enjoys teaching as well.
“I really enjoy coaching and teaching kids,” coach Stone stated in the release. “I have a passion for teaching this age group, and I obviously have a passion for baseball, but I love teaching government too; there are so many relevant topics and issues that we are able to discuss.”
Coach Stone is one of the longest-tenured coaches at HHS. He’ll look to continue his success on the diamond and looks to help kids continue to succeed in life.
“I think the students can learn a lot more than just baseball here,” coach Stone said in the release. “Just as we go through ups and downs during a season, these experiences teach them a lot about the ups and downs of life too.”
