McKoy coming home to be a Tar Heel
CARY, N.C. (BVM) — After two years as a Virginia Cavalier, Panther Creek High School alum Justin McKoy is coming back home. The 6-foot-8 forward entered the transfer portal following his sophomore year and has committed to play for new North Carolina Tar Heels head coach Hubert Davis.

In the 2020-21 season, McKoy played in 17 games for the Cavaliers while scoring 3.8 points per game on 50% shooting. The big man also pulled down 3.5 rebounds per game in a limited role.
A former three-star high school prospect and 2,000-point scorer, many believe McKoy still has loads of untapped potential. In Virginia, he got stuck in a logjam playing behind bigs like Sam Hauser and Jay Huff. In Chapel Hill this coming year, things should be opened up for McKoy.
Former center Walker Kessler announced his transfer to Auburn, and Armanda Bacot and Day’Ron Sharpe have both entered their names into the NBA Draft. While they have the option to return, there is a chance both are gone by the 2021-22 season. McKoy will have the chance to earn playing time as the Tar Heels’ front court will need to step up with some key losses.
McKoy is the first commit of new head coach and former NBA player Hubert Davis since he took over for the legendary Roy Williams.
