Utah, Smith nab Worster from Utah State

SALT LAKE CITY (BVM) – Utah men’s basketball will have a new look for the 2021-22 season to match its new head coach.

Craig Smith and the Utes just picked up Utah State transfer Rollie Worster days after landing former UNLV guard David Jenkins Jr. from the NCAA Transfer Portal. Worster started 25 games for Smith last season in Logan as a true freshman.

“Rollie is a perfect fit for the Runnin’ Utes,” Smith said in a press release. “Our staff has a tremendous feel for what Rollie will bring to our program. He has great versatility and has the mentality to play any position. He has a level of toughness on both ends of the floor and is a winner in every way. Utah fans are going to love watching him compete.”

The 6-foot-3 guard averaged 9.1 points, 3.8 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game for the Aggies last season. Worster reached double-figures in scoring on 10 separate occasions and finished just shy of a triple-double with a 19-point, 9-rebound and 9-assist game in a win over UNLV on Jan. 28.

The best player in the state of Montana coming out of high school, the Missoula native was a two-time Gatorade Montana Player of the Year at Hellgate High School. Worster averaged 20.7 points, 7.1 rebounds and 4.5 assists on the court, and accounted for more than 5,400 total yards on the gridiron for the Knights.

Smith has now assembled a playmaking floor general in Worster and a scoring machine in Jenkins Jr. through the transfer portal in the matter of weeks.
