Paths built by SCMBC are enjoyed by mountain bikers in all weather conditions

ORO STATION, Ontario — Have you been exploring the local forest, strolling along a single-track path? Chances are that those beautiful flowing single-track trails were maintained or even built by a team of community members from the Simcoe County Mountain Bike Club.

The SCMBC is a local non-profit organization that operates right here in Simcoe County. This not-for-profit was established in 2013 and became an incorporated organization in 2014. This club is made up of 1550 plus members who all rip and ride the trails throughout the Simcoe County trail network.

Over 160 km of trails are supported by the volunteers through passion and hard work. Even the kids join in on the hard work so the community can all enjoy the flowing ribbons of dirt through the forests.

The club provides “safe and exhilarating recreational experiences in a natural setting for all of their members.”

The club board works with stakeholders all around our county to ensure sustainability for the trail network and to ensure this enjoyment is felt by generations to come.

SCMBC has multiple land use agreements including the agreements procured even through the pandemic. These new agreements have secured up and coming trail systems at the Heights Ski and Country Club, Sturgeon River near Coldwater, and Dorion Tract near Owenda Provincial Park.

This volunteer organization is headed by the board consisting of nine dedicated, individuals: Joe Pearson, Club President; Justin Moreau, Club Vice President; Fred Ross, VP Operations; Lisa Sceviour, Treasurer; Rick Smith, Director of Operations – Severn; Joel Andrews, Director of Operations – Midland; Brian Bolivar, Director of Operations – Springwater, Ryan Russell, Director of Operations – Oro-Medonte; Rob Nishman, Director of Operations – Christian Island.

The volunteers have vested interest to maintain these trail systems, as they are all avid mountain bikers themselves. The maintenance takes place through all seasons now with fat biking popularity blowing up over the past few winters. Bikers are out all year long ripping it up.

The Simcoe County Mountain Bike Club brings mountain bikers from all over to participate in weekly social rides, volunteer trail builds, and they never leave out the wee riders and upcoming builders in the young eager members.

With eleven corporate sponsors, 100% yearly membership growth, and over 160 km of trails and growing, it is no wonder this club is one of the largest bike clubs in Ontario. Keep your eyes open for opportunities to lend a helping hand in building, maintaining or ripping it up on the amazing forest trail networks that surround us in this wonderful county.

Check out their website at www.scmbc.ca to get involved.

The SCMBC always has open arms for new members, volunteers, and trail builders.

Happy trails!
