Third annual cornhole tournament raises money for good cause

SAFETY HARBOR, Fla. — Nothing says Spring like a good old fashion corn hole competition! On March 6, Harbor Exchange Club hosted its 3rd Annual Charity Cornhole Tournament benefiting local nonprofit organizations dedicated to serving and protecting our youth from child abuse. The Cornhole game is known regionally as a bean bag toss for those who may not be familiar with the game. It is similar to horseshoes, except you use wooden boxes called cornhole platforms and corn bags instead of horseshoes and metal stakes.

The tournament took place in the Harbor Bar parking lot. Players and spectators enjoyed many opportunities to take home auction items and prizes, no matter how good – or bad they were at cornhole. State Farm and Rapid Response led the way for sponsorships this year, along with 25 other sponsors, providing tremendous support for this worthy cause.

The weather was sunny and fair, perfect conditions for serious competition! The tournament drew a large crowd, and the food and drinks were fantastic. Congratulations go to the 1st place winners, Walt & Christiane, and 2nd place winners, Father and Son, Bill & Shawn Smith. A big Thank You! goes to Sons of American Legion Post 238 for providing the food.

Success means support for children. Harbor Exchange Club is donating nearly $12,000 in proceeds to local nonprofits that directly work to prevent child abuse in our communities including Gulf Coast JFCS Heart Gallery, Ready for Life Pinellas, Chi Chi Rodriguez Youth Foundation, and CASA (Community Action Stops Abuse).

The check presentation was slated for April 13, 2021, at VFW Post 10093. Visitors were welcomed, new members wanted.
