McLemore set to take Haskell job
PETROLIA, Texas (BVM) — Petrolia High School head football coach Mitch McLemore is heading to Haskell to become the head coach and the athletics director for the Indians.
McLemore took the Petrolia job in 2019 and immediately turned around a struggling football program. Just the year prior, the Pirates were unable to even field a team. And with McLemore’s arrival, the team was able to win its first playoff game since 2002. The Pirates beat Cross Plains High School 28-27 in the bi-district round of the playoffs.
In his two seasons, the Pirates went 10-11 and finished last season with a 7-4 record.
Now, McLemore is set to take over at Haskell. The Indians haven’t made it past the bi-district round since 2009. They are also coming off a 2-7 season.
The Haskell community is well versed in athletics and with the hiring of McLemore, the Indians and their community will look to bounce back in the 2021-22 season.
