Former Arkansas Center becomes highest-paid center in NFL

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (BVM) — It’s the middle of the NFL offseason and a lot of decisions are being made with organizations. One organization, the Detroit Lions, decided to secure their center for the future, Frank Ragnow.

On Thursday, Ragnow signed a four-year, $54 million extension. This contract makes him the highest-paid center in the NFL. It’s truly a special honor for the former Arkansas Razorback.

“Frank is a foundational piece of what we’re building in Detroit and he is everything that we’re looking for in a Lion,” Lions general manager Brad Holmes said in a press release. “Frank plays the game the right way and has dedicated himself to improving his craft each season. We are ecstatic to come to this agreement and to have Frank be a leader on our team for years to come.”

Corey Linsley of the Los Angeles Chargers was previously the highest-paid center in the NFL. Linsley signed a five-year, $62.5 million in March.

During the 2019 season, Ragnow only allowed two sacks on a total of 996 offensive snaps. He received a 74.9 grade from Pro Football Focus. That grade placed him sixth out of 38 centers in the NFL.

Following an impressive 2019 season, Ragnow showed he wasn’t messing around in 2020. He didn’t allow one sack in 929 offensive snaps. He only had three penalties called on him during the whole season. As a result, his grade from PFF jumped up to 80.3.

“I had wrote [when I was younger] that my goal was to make it to the NFL and take care of, my parents,” Ragnow said in a press conference on Friday. “My dad and my mom are my people and I’m very grateful for them.”
