Space Coast lacrosse accomplishments

MELBOURNE, Fla. — At Space Coast Lacrosse (SCL), this spring truly is an exciting time for us as we bring to our community new leadership, player development opportunities, and programs.

Welcome, Brooks Sweet – SCL’s new Director of Coaching and Youth Coach. After a lifetime of making a significant impact on lacrosse around the world, Mr. Brooks Sweet looks to continue that impact in Brevard by coaching players, shaping and directing the vision of the club, and providing coaching education. “I am very excited and ready to make an impact on the growth of lacrosse on the Space Coast. My greatest asset is being on the field, working directly with players – passing on a lifetime of playing and coaching experiences,” states Brooks.

For the first time this spring, SCL is offering programs for players that do not require any purchase of equipment from the parents. Girls and boys ages 5 to 14 years can try and learn to play lacrosse in a non-checking class with Coach Mike, who has over 15 years of youth coaching and directing experience. If your player is ready for more, our girls and boys recreational and competitive teams are full gear, full checking, and instructed by experienced coaches.

These coaches are: Veteran SCL girls Coach Sonny Steckler, a former Assistant MCC Varsity Head Coach and current Assistant Girls Lacrosse Coach at Satellite High School. He is also a Level 3 US Lacrosse Certified Coach and Coaching Trainer for U.S. Lacrosse. Coach Mark Lorusso, a former Varsity Head Coach at Viera High School, has 10 years of coaching experience and is the Middle School Girls Competitive Head Coach. The newly added boys coach is Coach Brooks Sweet.

Space Coast Lacrosse offers an array of opportunities for players of all ages and different skill levels from beginner to national competitions. Our Spring Program consists of:

Further congratulations to freshman high school players that will play in four national tournaments this summer on the Elite 2024 Team – Defense/Midi – Berghan Balparda, Attack/Midi – Isabella DiSciascio, Attack – Carys Steckler, and Defense/Midi/Draw Specialist – Isabella (Bella) Wessel. All four are playing varsity lacrosse for their high schools. Additionally, last year’s middle school comp players who are now freshman this year, all made the varsity team for their respective high schools. Some of the schools have not had a freshman make the varsity team in the last four years! Way to go girls!
