Monarch lacrosse coach Auday reaches milestone

LOUISVILLE, Colo. (BVM) — Lacrosse might not be the first sport that people think about when it comes to high school coaching legends, but Monarch High School head coach David Auday might belong in that conversation.

When the Coyotes earned a 15-3 victory over Dakota Ridge last week, Auday became just the fourth boys lacrosse coach in Colorado history to reach 200 wins for his career. In nearly 19 full seasons, Auday has led Monarch to a winning record in all but one year — 2003, which was just one year after the program was created.

The Coyotes have reached the state playoffs 13 under Auday but have yet to win a state championship. They hope to have the chance to make a run at their first later this month. Monarch has a 4-1 record through five games of its shortened spring schedule and is ranked No. 11 in Class 5A — the state’s largest classification — in the latest CHSAA poll. There are less than two weeks left in the regular season before postseason competition begins June 17.
