Greenwich girls tennis makes CIAC Class LL quarterfinals appearance with new HC

GREENWICH, Conn. (BVM) — Juile Shropshire took on the challenge of leading the girls tennis team at Greenwich High School after getting hired in February. The team ended up having an overall successful 2021 season, especially after a surprising advancement in the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference (CIAC) tennis tournament.

Greenwich, only a No. 17 seed, advanced to the CIAC Class LL quarterfinals after defeating No. 1 seeded Glastonbury. Greenwich upset and eliminated Glastonbury 6-1 after receiving four singles victories and two doubles wins.

But the positive momentum ended for Greenwich during the quarterfinal round which was played a couple of days later on June 1. The team took on No. 8 seeded Fairfield Ludlowe and lost 4-3. It was still a close match, but Greenwich finished the season with a record of 11-8.

Although the team didn’t make it to the semifinal round there are now even higher hopes for the girls next year. After all, Shropshire isn’t one to give up. She has decades of experience in the sport of tennis and was even inducted into Stony Brook University’s Hall of Fame following her time playing for the school.
