The Boys’ Varsity Eight laid down a great time in some rough conditions on Saturday during their heat to make it to the final. The rowed a blazing time of 4:30.12 and were second place in their heat. This is the first time in 16 years Space Coast Crew has had a boys’ varsity eight medal at the state championship. In the final the crew was able to overcome a rough start in a strong cross wind and row back into third place. They closed the gap on first and second place finishing only 7 and 5 seconds behind respectively. The crew was comprised of Zachary Vaidic, Ryan Ste Marie, Luke Pair, Lincoln Hendricks, Jack Mackinnon, Duke Campbell, Thomas Eastwood, Daniel Minogue, and coxswain Sophia Troia.

The Girls Junior 8+ also had two fantastic races this past weekend competing against six other boats. In both their heat and final, the crew had an extremely strong start and were able to push out in front of four of the other crews. As the race developed in the final, they were able to create a large gap of 11 seconds between them and third place. The crew was comprised of Kaitlyn Jackson, Cailin Buchanan, Adair Connor, Allison Walkup, Alexis Lapp, Nicole Van Esselstyn, Caroline Scott, Sidney Norman, and coxswain Laura Cleasby.

The Boys’ Third varsity 8+ had a good race on Saturday during the heats and an even better race on Sunday in the finals. They really fought hard in their final on Sunday showing some serious improvement in boat speed which helped close the gap by one second on the field. The crew was comprised of Andy Li, Jason (Jake) Lagasca, Gabriel Fleis, Caleb Parkerson, Austin Osborn, Ryan Marin, Lucas Da Silva, Jacob Marano, and coxswain Samuel Jones.
