Jackson HS athlete following his first year competing since pandemic paused sports

JACKSON, Mich. — Andrew (Drew) England participates in sport year round, but he is currently in Track. Sophomore year was his first year competing since the Covid-19 pandemic put a pause on all school sports last year. Since he had no previous track experience, this put him behind. He feels like he has had to work harder to make up for lost time and catch up with his peers.

“The most important thing to do before practice and competition is a good warm up routine, Drew states, “and even though I started slower than I should have in a few of my events, I have to mentally talk myself through it. I put everything I have near the end to make up the difference.” He loves running though, and wants to qualify for States his senior year, and continue running in college.

This summer Drew will be lifeguarding at the Jackson  YMCA. He likes to play video games, hang out with friends, and read. He is a laid back and outgoing young man. Drew’s favorite sports warm up  song is Kickstart My Heart by Motley Crue, and favorite food is toast with strawberry jelly. The most important thing his parents have taught Drew is how to be thankful for the things he has and the opportunities he gets in life.
