St. Francis Prep’s Kaleb Artis joining Penn State

FRESH MEADOWS, N.Y. (BVM) — St. Francis Prep’s Kaleb Artis wouldn’t get the chance to showcase his full capabilities on the football field after the pandemic allowed for only a shortened junior season. However, the lack of action wouldn’t stop Artis from garnering some national attention.

The 6-foot-4, 290-pound defensive lineman made waves with size and strength during the Terriers’ three-game season after the fall season was moved to late April. In Artis’ last full season back in 2019, the sophomore was able to show his early ability on the field, racking up 52 tackles, five sacks, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.

The ever improving play from the New York native led to a hectic summer for the Class of 2022 recruit. Artis, the No. 2 player in the state, received offers from the likes of Auburn, Virginia, Boston College and Florida State. After official visits throughout the month, Artis decided to mark his commitment to Penn State on July 4, delivering a different reason to celebrate.

“I wanna start off by saying thank you to all who offered and showed me any interest and I want to say thank you to the man above,” Artis shared with a picture of him in a Penn State uniform on social media. “None of this would’ve been possible without GOD by my side as well as my parents, family, friends, and all others who showed much support. Respect it.”

The announcement on July 4 marked a busy day for Penn State, who was able to add two other defensive lineman after commitments from Tyreese Fearbry and Zane Durant.

With another chance at a full season for Artis, the rising senior will look to take advantage of a much more normal year. Artis will likely be a focal point of opposing offenses as the Terriers’ defensive star will look to get the program back on track after going 2-7 in its last full season.
