Sentinel standout commits to BYU

MISSOULA, Mont. (BVM)  — A Missoula local, Dylan Rollins, is making the leap to D1 College football. Rollins, who had received over sixteen Division I offers, committed to Brigham Young University (BYU) last December.

“First off I would like to thank everyone who has helped me get to this point,” Rollins said in a tweet. “To all my family, friends, coaches, trainers and teammates, I can’t thank you all enough for the help and support that you have given me, I really couldn’t be here without you. Also, thank you to all the teams who recruited me and followed me through the recruiting process. Above all else, I would like to thank God for all that He has given me, especially an opportunity to play the game that I love at the next level and for blessing me with the abilities and people in my life that have gotten me to where I am. With that said, I’d like to announce my commitment to Brigham Young University!! Go Cougs!”

Other FBS schools interested in Rollins included Nebraska and Central Michigan. Schools in the Mountain West Conference also included Utah State, UNLV and Air Force.

Rollins was also named the 2020-21 Gatorade Montana Player of the Year. He became the first-ever Sentinel player to receive the award and became the first offensive lineman to win it in ten years. The previous lineman to win the award came in 2011 with Helena High’s Caleb Kidder. Since the year 2000, only four offensive linemen have won the award.

Rollins, being a three-star recruit and the highest-ranked player in Montana, stands at 6-foot-5 and weighs 285-pounds. Rollins was also chosen to play in the Blue-Grey All-American Bowl on Jan. 18 at AT&T Stadium

Along with his All-American selection, Rollins was a three-year starter and a captain for Sentinel High School and helped his team win their first state title since 1972. With Rollins in the middle, the Spartans went 10-0 and he only allowed one sack all year long. Rollins also helped the Spartans record over 2,000 yards of rushing offense and 34 touchdowns on the ground.

Rollins had previously played offensive tackle during his sophomore season and moved to guard his junior and senior year, allowing Sentinel to have its all-star offensive line on the field. With his commitment to BYU, Rollins will have the chance to play offensive tackle once more.

“As an offensive lineman, you are never in the spotlight a lot, hardly ever and you don’t really expect it,” Rollins said. “That’s what happens when you get used to the position, understanding and accepting that your role is an important one, not a glorious one. Getting that recognition is awesome amidst all the talent there is in the state, that an offensive lineman was chosen. It’s a huge honor for me.”

Rollins was the highest-rated recruit out of Montana in the last six years. The sky is the limit for Rollins as he begins his career at BYU.
