OTE adds top Romanian prospect Tudor Somacescu

LOS ANGELES (BVM) – Overtime Elite (OTE), the transformative new basketball league, continues to attract top talent. The league announced this week that Tudor Somacescu, one of the top European prospects, has signed with OTE.

After just turning 16 a month ago, Somacescu is now the youngest player on OTE’s roster, but he’s also ranked as the No. 3 overall international prospect for 2005-born players by Eurohopes.com. He currently holds the title of youngest player in FIBA history to average double-figures in points in a European championship, leading his country of Romania’s U16 team with 10 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.7 steals per game at just 14 years old.

“We’re incredibly excited to have Tudor join OTE as we continue to assemble a group of talented and driven athletes committed to chasing excellence,” Brandon Williams, OTE’s EVP and head of basketball operations said in a release. “Tudor is a special basketball player who has demonstrated a boldness and courage to journey from Eastern Europe to explore other styles of basketball, compete against top talent, and further hone his skills. He demonstrates high-level court vision, a joy for the game and passion for making others better. He will elevate his teammates and we’re thrilled to work with him to continue to help him reach his dreams.”

The 6-foot-2 Somacescu spent last season in the U.S. at Sierra Canyon playing alongside high-profile prospects such as Bronny James and Amari Bailey. Now with OTE, he’ll team up with California’s top-rated player from the Class of 2023 in Jalen Lewis as well as other top prospects from across the country and world. Elite international prospects from the Dominican Republic, France, Belgium, Puerto Rico and the Philippines have signed to play with OTE for its inaugural season set to tip off in September.

OTE is a transformative new sports league that aims to work as a comprehensive accelerator for elite players’ professional careers. A division of the sports brand Overtime, the league offers a year-round development program where every OTE player earns a six-figure salary with a guaranteed minimum salary of at least $100,000 per year.

“Tudor has an advanced basketball IQ, a terrific feel for the game and the ability to share the ball with his teammates, getting everyone involved. They will love playing with him,” Kevin Ollie, OTE head coach and head of player development said in a release. “I look forward to sharing my knowledge as a former point guard to help him develop as a team leader on and off the court.”
