The former Bishop Gorman High School standout returns to his hometown of Las Vegas after stints at a pair of blue-chip programs. Martell committed to Ohio State in 2016 after previously de-committing from both Washington and Texas A&M. The 2016-17 Gatorade High School Player of the Year was expected to be the Buckeyes’ future at the QB position until Dwayne Haskins won the starting job in 2018. When Justin Fields transferred to OSU from Georgia following the 2018 season, Martell entered the NCAA Transfer Portal.
Miami was Martell’s next destination, but in the midst of a position change to wide receiver and a global pandemic, the Hurricanes weren’t the answer either. He entered the transfer portal again in January.
Martell will have two years of eligibility remaining with the Runnin’ Rebels and he’ll look to rejuvenate a career that once appeared to be destined for stardom.
