Gloom in Green Bay: Packers’ Rodgers & Adams Last Year?
The Packers star duo of Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams have yet to agree to contract extensions with their team and could be on the way out of the green and gold.

Gloom in Green Bay: Packers’ Rodgers & Adams Last Year?

GREEN BAY, WI. (BVM) — With the NFL season quickly approaching and many teams beginning training camp to ready their squads, the Green Bay Packers still face looming questions.

The disgruntlement between Aaron Rodgers and the Packers organization has been heating up for months, and with the recent news of Davante Adams breaking off contract talks, the Packers have reached a boiling point. Fortunately, news of both Rodgers and Adams reporting to training camp has begun to surface, but that doesn’t change the fact that all parties involved have a murky future ahead of them, at best.

Rodgers and his career long team have always struggled to see eye to eye. Whether it be the many years of feuding between the franchise quarterback and former Green Bay coach Mike McCarthy or the drafting of Utah State quarterback Jordan Love in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, Rodgers has many times disagreed with the path of the franchise.

Where does the frustration originate? Rodgers’ clearly wants to have a voice in the decision making of the team, and the Packers continue to leave him out. The most recent example of this battle for power was how the Packers season ended this last year, with head coach Matt LaFleur choosing to take the ball out of Rodgers’ hands on a gamewinning drive against the eventual Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Electing to kick a field goal, the Packers never got a chance to win and never got the ball back from Tom Brady’s team, thus being knocked out of the playoffs in the NFC title game.

It was clear that Rodgers wanted to go for a touchdown instead of a field goal as LaFleur called him off the field. The disappointment was evident then, and the avalanche of bad news for the Packers continues with the news of their star receiver Adams not signing an extension. It was also recently leaked that Rodgers turned down a fiveyear deal that would have made him the highest paid quarterback in football.

With Adams revealing his future may not be with the Packers and Aaron Rodgers’ absence from the team, Green Bay fanatics as well as avid fans of the NFL are left to wonder, “what now?” The football season kicks off in just over a month and there are a multitude of question marks surrounding the Packers. Though Rodgers and Adams most likely know what jersey they will be putting on this year, everyone on the outside is left to speculate.

Recently, both Rodgers and Adams posted the same cryptic picture on their Instagram accounts of Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen high fiving during the Chicago Bulls last championship run. Many fans have said that this signals a “Last Dance” for the Packers duo, who will play out the last year of their contract with the Packers and then depart from the team.

If there is truth to the rumor, that may be the best case scenario for a franchise that has underappreciated their top talent. If Rodgers and Adams do come back for one last ride in their last year of their contracts, the organization would no longer have the power in the relationship. It would then be up to the Packers to either celebrate their dynamic duo or send them on their way once the 2021-22 season wrapped up.

Rodgers and Adams have made it clear in denying their contracts that it is not about the money. If the Packers want to hold on to their offensive talents, they will have to offer a seat at the table instead of a bigger paycheck.

Only time will tell how the situation unfolds, but Rodgers and Adams have made what they value most clear to the organization. The Packers organization must now do their best to alleviate the broken contract talks while the Packers fans must anxiously await the news. For the fandom surrounding Green Bay, seeing Rodgers retire or put on a different jersey would be painful considering how close the Packers came last year to the Super Bowl.

If a deal could be struck, one more year of Rodgers and Adams lining up together may be okay for Packers fans. The Last Dance worked out for Jordan and Pippen, so if the Packers duo returns to lace it up for one last ride, the expectations will be high for the Green Bay Packers.
