Oakville native Tessa Cieplucha, representing Canada at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics

OAKVILLE, Ont. — Tessa Cieplucha, an Oakville, Ont. native, is representing Canada in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. At only 22 years old, she represented Canada in the 400-meter individual medley on July 24 and finished in sixth place.

On her path to Tokyo, Cieplucha beat her personal best performance and won a silver medal in the 400m individual medley during the Olympic Trials. This impressive performance secured her spot in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Born in 1998, Cieplucha has been competing since she was 9 years old, competing at her first international event in 2014, at the age of 16. Cieplucha attended the University of Tennessee where she was a part of the swimming program, coached by Matt Kredich. She was part of the team which went undefeated in their season, one of three times in the University’s history, and the first since 1972.

Cieplucha has risen to the top of the sport, competing in international events with her college and eventually attending the 2019 Panam games representing Canada. It was her first senior competition in which she won the gold medal for the 400m individual medley.

Currently, Tessa lives in Georgetown, a small town just outside of the GTA. She is a part of the Toronto Titans swim club.

Still young, expect to see Cieplucha continuing to compete for Canada in the coming years and potentially for another Olympic Games in 2024.
