ORO-MEDONTE, Ontario — Do you love football? Simcoe County Flag Football League is excited to bring a new sport to Simcoe County for girls and boys ages 5-16. No experience is necessary! Each player receives their own football so they can practice at home as well as flags and a jersey. Participants will learn the fundamental skills of football through fun and engaging games. They will also be learning essential life skills such as leadership, sportsmanship, teamwork, and respect. They offer a pre-season skills camp to teach the basics needed to be successful all season as well as offer a Learn-to-Play program designed to introduce football to children ages 5-8. The girls’ division for ages 9-16 is designed to foster an environment where young women who love sports feel encouraged to pursue their interest in football within a league of their own.

Both the league’s commissioners are players themselves and are extremely passionate about growth in women’s football with their commitment to supporting the interests and needs of young female players.

Stephanie Reid is one of the Co-Commissioner of the Simcoe County Flag Football League. She has been playing soccer since the age of six, including a full ride scholarship to the University of Texas. She continues her endeavours transitioning from soccer to football where she has excelled at a provincial and national level. Stephanie is excited to grow a local football community for her kids to be able to grow up, and be a part of.

Caressa Edwards is also the league’s Co-Commissioner who says she is absolutely thrilled to bring her level of expertise to this league. She has over twelve years playing experience in various leagues from flag to touch to contact, competing at regional, provincial, and national levels. As a defensive specialist, she has recently segued into coaching youth flag football.

Sandringham Park will be the official home of all their weekly league games. With its multiple fields, all ages will be playing at the same time. “This was important to us to ensure the ease for parents who have multiple children playing.” Despite having to postpone the start of the season, the plan is to still have a 10 week season as planned.

Although registration is now full for this season, Simcoe County Flag Football League also has several positions available to join in for a fun summer outdoors with volunteer and employment opportunities. They are looking for field coordinators to assist the coaches.
