As a reminder, and just so you don’t miss a thing, please avail yourself of the beautiful 2021 BWGA calendar on our web site. Web mistress Linda Jaskolski has expertly chronicled every opportunity to join in the fun and to make scheduling your golf life a breeze!

Exciting news for members who just love to work on their golf game. You will be thrilled to know the Blackhawk driving range is getting a significant re-do scheduled for the fall season. New solar panels along with state of the art technology will help analyze your golf shots while providing real time feedback; 18-20 individual bays, targets and a fairway bunker will complete the look. This may actually change hearts and minds for those of us who live by the motto, “the driving range never killed anyone, but why take the chance.” Perhaps this technology could also provide an entertaining in-club only Comedy Chanel where we could tune in at anytime and watch each other practice.

Our BWGA Classic Tournament rolled into Camp Blackhawk on June 23rd for afternoon cocktails, fun and games and a little shopping orchestrated by Camp Director Dawn Schaeffer. We jumped out of our bunks at sun-up with a 7:00am check in and a boxed breakfast to go from the chuck wagon. The campers geared up with their favorite bug spray, bear spray and hair spray and hit the links! We met back at the dining hall for lunch and cocktails provided by our own Nicole Tucker who made sure we did not go thirsty!

The fun continued that very afternoon as three of the top teams from each of the four flights qualified for the Horse Race. The final outcome was:

  • WIN: Lydia Shell/Angie Friedrich/Amy Shell/Bonnie Shewchuck
  • PLACE: Jill Austin/Linda Stubblefeld/Sallie Cooke/Kerry Singleton
  • SHOW: Karin King/Rae Lynn Lambert/Jan Lind/Nancy Rattie

Thankfully this was less boot camp and more glamping thanks to a very clever Dawn Schaeffer and her committee. As usual, our entire pro shop staff stepped up for all our needs. The kitchen never let us down with yummy BBQ style lunches and desserts for days. As the sun set on another BWGA Classic tournament, we were grateful to see old friends come back and very happy to make some new ones. Like the song says, “Happy Trails to You, Until We Meet Again.”
