Tendon injury sets back young career of Mike Soroka

CALGARY, Alberta (BVM) — Michael John Graydon Soroka, also known as Mike Soroka, is a Canadian professional baseball pitcher. He is a native of Calgary who plays baseball for the Atlanta Braves of Major League Baseball (MLB) since 2018. Before he dedicated his passion of sports to baseball only, he also played hockey at school. He got selected in the college championship team for baseball and then aimed his game for national opportunities.  His career aced when he was awarded with MLB All-Star in 2019 and National League Rookie of the year award in 2020 until his most recent Achilles Tendon injury marks a temporary pause to the player’s game.

Soroka was not hit by the injury for the first time during his emerging career in baseball. In 2018, when he got a kickstart in his career, he faced an inflammation injury in his arm for which he was listed as disabled in ten-day list at first, and then sixty-day list, right after his initial six innings. This challenge didn’t let the hope of his fans or the player himself down, however, he joined the game back and continued until the season was completed. 2019 was his debut season. He revealed about a shoulder discomfort during his offseason workout which turned into a trapezius strain. Fortunately, it was resolved until the game began and Soroka was marked clear to perform. He was among the two youngest participants for All-Star game during the year.

In July 2020 season game, Soroka was the Opening Day Starting Pitcher in the team. Braves team marks this opening by a 22-year-old youngest player as a historical moment. It was a great start until mid of August when Soroka tumbled to the ground and was unable to walk for the medical aid. A tendon injury leads the player leave his game for the following season. He had to go under a surgery for the repair of Achilles Tendon. Yet, he didn’t recover completely when he got his tendon reinjured which will be followed by season-ending surgery this year, 2021. This is not only a painful moment for the player but also for his fans.

According to team Braves pitching coach, the positive attribute about Soroka’s game is that he makes adjustment when a certain pitch was not marked as it should be, and he understand his aims. In all his games, his performance revealed his passion for baseball and the spirit of sportsmanship. During an interview, Soroka mentioned “That’s just me. I don’t want to play this game putting a target on my back like a lot of other people do”. His fans wish for his speedy recovery and good health.
