Lakewood Rangers celebrate standout performance in win

LAKEWOOD, Ohio – The players of the Lakewood varsity football team celebrated the accomplishment of Hakeem Quran; one of the best running backs on the team, who broke a 40-year old record in a game against John Marshall.

According to coach Thomas Thorne, Quran broke the school’s single-game rushing record of 283 yards set by Jim McGuire in the year 1981 by rushing a total of 285 yards.

Quran’s hard work and consistent practice towards the game have led him to this record-breaking performance against John Marshall. Quran later said that he had no idea about the achievement until afterward and that he was shocked when they told him it was a 40-year-old record. He said he’s lucky to accomplish something this big.

This is not the first time, that the 5-foot-10 senior from the Lakewood High School has amused everyone. Last year he rushed over 1000 yards in 10 games for Lakewood and this year his coach expects him to rush above 1500 yards to break Ryan Rustad’s career record of 3,427 yards.
