Centerville HS boys cross country forges ahead
CENTERVILLE, Ohio — Despite not finishing as strongly as we’d hoped during the 2020-21 season, the Centerville High School boys’ cross-country team still gave an admirable performance. We were runners-up in both the Southwest District and Greater Western Ohio Conference (GWOC) meets.
Aidan Downs, last year’s number one runner, graduated; but we’re looking forward to returning team members Quinn Anderson, Tyler Job and Jacob Spaulding.
A lot of seniors who haven’t been in our top seven before are really stepping up. The sophomore class is looking forward to a “normal” season, so we can get out and race teams outside of GWOC. We are also adding a big group of freshmen who are very strong and dedicated. Daniel Emmert dominated GWOC last year, winning every race during the season and placing fourth in the state middle school meet.
Our offseason went very well; the boys were incredibly focused and driven. I am excited to see how the results from the road races that they ran over the summer translate into cross-country this fall. After missing the state championship the last two years, our goal is to make it back this year.
