Tyler Turner continues his basketball dreams at the University of Winnipeg
WINNIPEG, Manitoba — Tyler Turner graduated from Westwood Collegiate in June and was awarded the St. James-Assiniboia School Division Athletic Achievement Scholarship Award. He plans to continue to focus on his academic and basketball skills while studying Kinesiology and Applied Health at the University of Winnipeg (U of W).
Turner is one of the young promising athletes playing basketball for Central Canada Prep, a new preparatory basketball program being offered through the Winnipeg Sport Institute in partnership with the U of W.
“I am eager to challenging my skills on both ends of the floor and be a part of this new program,” said Turner. “Especially because of the lost 2020 season, most athletes, including myself, were not able to showcase their abilities.”
From a young age, Turner, along with his younger brother, began playing community club basketball, coached by his father. Turner’s basketball passion and journey carried on from there. During his four years at Westwood Collegiate, he racked up some major accomplishments – team and individual. Turner’s work ethic is unwavering and proven by his daily workouts. Even through COVID, when he couldn’t go to the gym, he found ways to keep a workout regime and shoot baskets whenever and wherever possible.
Today, Turner is a dominant shooting guard who makes exceptional plays, both on defensive and offensive. He is a hard worker and always generates advantages for his teammates in other areas of the court.
With the support of his family, Turner has acquired leadership capabilities both on and off the court. He aims higher, works harder and lives by his motto, which is tattooed on his arm, “If it doesn’t challenge you, it won’t change you.”
