Closing of the first National Sport School of Canada

Calgary, Alberta — The National Sport School which was created in the year 1994 in association with Winsports officially closed in June. The school was formed for athletes having the skill and potential to represent the country in the Olympics as well as in the Paralympics to secure medals for the country.

NSS was known to be the first National School for Sports in the country. The school successfully managed to give some of the best professional athletes to the country that represented Canada in the Olympics and Paralympics. Hockey gold medalists Carla Macleod and Jennifer Botterill, Gymnast Kyle Shewfelt, and Ski-crosser Brady Leman were all students of NSS. Not to forget the champion Jessica Sloan, who amazed everyone by winning six gold medals in Swimming in the 2000 Sydney Summer Paralympics is another famous alumnus of the institute.

The National Sport School will follow and operate under the Palliser School Division which has over 35 schools under its program. The joining is scheduled to happen in September and the only reason for this massive switch according to officials is to cut down the enormous costs that the National Sports School took to operate. Just by switching the school to Palliser School Division, the officials are ready to save an average of around 900 to 950 thousand Canadian dollars every year.
