Paralympic Games in Tokyo come to a close with over 20 medals for Team Canada

HAMILTON, Ontario — With the Olympics over, it was time to focus on the 2020 Paralympic Games in Tokyo.

On Sept. 5, the Paralympic Games came to a close and Brent Lakatos, who won four silver medals including fourth in the marathon, was the flag bearer representing 128 Canadian athletes. Lakotas who is from Dorval, Quebec and Aurélie Rivard, a swimmer from Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, won an impressive 9 medals between them.

In total, Canada earned 21 medals: 5 gold; 10 silver and 6 bronze which placed us 19th in the standings. Some medal highlights include Nate Riech winning gold in the T38 1,500m final. The Victoria, BC native is a world record holder and won the 1,500m at a time of 3:58.92.

Marissa Papaconstantinou of Toronto also set a personal best in the T64 100m final earning a bronze medal and Danielle Dorris from Moncton, NB, won gold with her world-record performance in the S7 50m Butterfly event.
