Bellbrook Golden Eagles are a step behind from their 2020 season, with massive games ahead
BELLBROOK, Ohio – Jeff Jenkins and the Bellbrook Golden Eagles came into the 2021 season with a massive amount of confidence. That confidence stemmed from the Golden Eagles’ undefeated 2020 season and the deep run in the playoffs.
Jenkins led Bellbrook to a Southwestern Buckeye League championship and a regional semifinal matchup with the Ross Rams. Unfortunately, the Golden Eagles lost a challenging game to the Rams 41-19, falling short of making a trip to the final four in Columbus, Ohio.
Bellbrook’s 2021 season started with a win over the Tipp City Red Devils. The Golden Eagles were off to a 1-0 start and riding the momentum into a challenging game against the Badin Rams. Badin is currently ranked 34th in Ohio and fourth in Division III.
After the loss to the Badin Rams, Bellbrook bounced back with a big win against Tecumseh. The most brutal loss to swallow for Bellbrook is that 21-20 loss to the Eaton Eagles last Friday. That loss comes after the Golden Eagles dominated Eaton the previous year 42-0.
Bellbrook’s recent loss ranks the Golden Eagles 20th in Division III and 134th in the state of Ohio, per MaxPreps. The Golden Eagles have back-to-back key games against the Franklin Wildcats and the Waynesville Spartans. Jeff Jenkins’ crew outscored Waynesville and Franklin combined 82-0 last season.
Waynesville and Franklin both pose a threat to the Golden Eagles’ playoff hopes. Franklin has outscored opponents 61-32 this season. The Spartans have outscored their opponents 128-44 this season. Bellbrook will need to weather the storm against Franklin and Waynesville to set up a massive game against the Monroe Hornets on Oct. 15.
Bellbrook has a bit of a break meeting Madison and Oakwood before their matchup with Monroe. Oakwood has given up 124 points this season and 45 points to league opponents. Madison gave up 45 points to Waynesville and has yet to find their first win of the season.
The Golden Eagles hope to handle their business and head into their meeting with Monroe 5-3. That means splitting with Franklin and Waynesville, then beating both Madison and Oakwood. Bellbrook will close out their season with a home game against Valley View on Oct. 22, which isn’t an easy task. The Valley View Spartans took care of business against Oakwood 45-6 last Friday night and headed into a meeting with the winless Madison Mohawks.
Bellbrook has six games left in their 2021-22 season, and each game is crucial for the Golden Eagles. It may not be time to panic for Bellbrook, but it’s time to pick up the sense of urgency if they want to make a playoff run this season.
