Baylor Bears look to live up to hype against Oklahoma State

WACO, Texas — Coming into this season very few considered the Baylor Bears when they were thinking about what teams would stir up the most noise in the Big 12 Conference. Many people assumed it would be the usual suspects such as Oklahoma, Iowa State, and maybe even Oklahoma State. But Baylor? There’s no way the team that went 2-7 last season could be stirring up the Big 12, right? Well, here we are going into Week 5 of this season and Baylor stands at a perfect 4-0 and are now the No. 21 ranked team in the nation. They have proved a lot of the doubters wrong and are looking to continue to turn heads with their results.

Last week, Baylor was unranked and was welcoming the No. 14 team in the nation, the Iowa State Cyclones, to their house. Many expected Baylor to roll over because despite the fact that they were 3-0, the quality of opponent they had faced was nowhere near that of Iowa State. However, much to a lot of people’s surprise, Baylor stood tall when faced with adversity. The Bears did just enough to hold off the Cyclones as they pulled off the upset, winning 31-29.

After the game, Baylor linebacker Dillon Doyle spoke about his team and what this win means for them, “We got a tough group of guys, and I think we knew that but it’s definitely awesome to go test yourself and see that for real. Under the lights, and go put that on display on the national stage and, just so proud of our guys.”

Baylor running back, Tristan Ebner, also spoke following the upset win over the Cyclones, “We’re not shocked. We expected to come in this game and win. It’s a big time game because we were in it. We respect them, they’re disciplined and tough, we knew it was going to be a hard game. But we’re not shocked, we know we’ve been ready for this moment, we’ve been preparing for this moment, and I’m just proud that we came out and executed.”

Ebner had a 98-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the 3rd quarter of the win over Iowa State, right after the Cyclones had made it a one possession game.

The Bears will travel up north to Boone Pickens Stadium where they will take on the No. 19 Oklahoma State Cowboys. This game provides another chance for Baylor to prove themselves and solidify their ranking among some of the best teams in the nation. A win here would also be crucial to both team’s pursuit of a Big 12 championship, as both the Bears and Cowboys have started the season 4-0. It will be another chance for Baylor to show the nation that this season they mean business and have fully turned the corner from pretender to contender.
