HILLSBOROUGH, N.C. – A dynamic team of six young ladies from the Carolina Elite Dance Studio in Hillsborough participated in the World Dance Championship and placed in the top 10 of the junior novice-level division. Competing against more than 50 other teams, this was the first time a team from Carolina Elite Dance Studio had qualified. They pushed hard, and their hard work shows.

Toi Burton, the co-owner, works with her students based on age and skill level. “We try to keep the same group together. That way they grow together. If you want to dance, my job is to teach you the skills you need to get on the stage. It’s just the joy of seeing them say, ‘We did this. We accomplished our goal,’” she said.

The team from Carolina Elite Studio won the Believe National Talent Competition that was held in Rocky Mount, which earned the team a ‘golden ticket’ to compete at the World Dance Championship in the junior novice level. Carolina Elite Studio teaches hip hop, as well as lyrical dance and jazz. Burton said there are plans to add tumbling and ballet. This is a school – and a teacher – dedicated to dance.
