Kaylyn Hall continues to pursue running dreams at Iowa State

LONDON, Ontario – From a young age, Kaylyn Hall loved to participate in sports. In grade seven, her parents signed her up for the London Legion Track program, and she fell in love with hurdles event a few years into the program. Developing her skills and techniques, she moved on to train with London Western Track in grade eleven. Kaylyn stood out as a OFSAA competitor, and was recruited to join the Athletics team at Iowa State University in 2018. Leaving London for Ames, Iowa was a big change for the teen, but she really appreciates the experiences she has each and every day there.

“I have been able to meet so many different people from different backgrounds and cultures, and that’s what excites me about being here.” She admits that her freshman year being so far away and in the U.S. was a bit of a culture shock, but she kept going and quickly adjusted to her new home.

With the pandemic and border closings, her parents, Helen and Trevor Hall, have not been able to attend as many of her meets as they would have liked, but they are so incredibly proud of the commitment and dedication their daughter puts into her sport.

To younger students who are considering trying a new sport, such as track, Kaylyn says, “take it as is comes and have fun with it. It won’t always be exactly what you picture, but all of the hard work you put in and risks you take are definitely worth it in the end.”
