Utah secures commitment from Class of 2022 receiver Chris Reed
SALT LAKE CITY — Utah fans received a bit of a surprise Wednesday when class of 2022 wide receiver Chris Reed announced he was committing to play his college football for the program.
Reed wasn’t on Utah fans’ radar until Tuesday, when he tweeted that he had received an offer from the Utes. Recruiting website 247Sports had not reported any other offers for Reed up until Utah’s offer.
About 26 hours later, Reed announced his commitment to play college football in Salt Lake City, tweeting, “First and foremost I want to thank GOD and I would also like to thank all of my [coaches] for helping me reach this point in life. I also would love to thank my parents for helping me with this decision. I have fallen in love with the coaching staff at this college [and] this is a place I see myself at for the next four years. With that being said, I would love to announce my commitment to the University of Utah. #GoUtes!”

Reed, who plays football and basketball at Wekiva High School in Apopka, Florida, is a big target on the outside, standing 6-foot-2, 190 pounds.
So far this season, he has 476 yards and eight touchdowns, he tweeted.
He scored four touchdowns in the team’s 35-26 loss to Olympia on Aug. 27, showcasing his jump ball ability and threat as a deep ball option.

Utah’s 2022 class is small, at just seven commitments so far. The class has also shrunk recently with three-star Texas wide receiver Zion Steptoe and four-star in-state defensive lineman Aisea Moa both decommitting from the program in the past two weeks.
Six of Utah coach Kyle Whittingham’s seven recruits in 2022 are offensive recruits.
Reed is the second wide receiver currently signed to the class, joining Adarrius Harshaw, a speedy, 5-foot-10 three-star receiver from Canton, Georgia.
