The Top 5 SEC teams after Week 7

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (BVM) — It was another week of exciting football in the SEC. Georgia showed why it’s ranked No. 1 and Ole Miss-Tennessee came down to the wire. Here is a look at the top five teams in the conference after Week 7.

  1. Kentucky (6-1, lost to No. 1 Georgia 30-13)

It’s been a great season for the now No. 15-ranked Wildcats, but it’s hard to believe that anyone actually expected this team to go into Athens and beat Georgia. A run-dependent team, star running back Chris Rodriguez Jr. was held to seven yards on seven carries. It shows the differences between the Wildcats and the Bulldogs.

Mark Stoops has done a great job turning this program around. And it can still be a great season for the Wildcats. They’ll look to continue this impressive season as they take on Mississippi State on Oct. 30.

  1. Texas A&M (5-2, beat Missouri 35-14)

The Aggies moved up one spot with a dominating win over the Missouri Tigers. Now ranked No. 17, Texas A&M was probably expected to have a letdown after beating formally No. 1-ranked Alabama, but they proved the doubters wrong.

Isaiah Spiller took over the game when he rushed 20 times for 168 yards and one touchdown.

Jimbo Fisher’s squad should come ready to play as they host South Carolina this weekend.

  1. Ole Miss (5-1, beat Tennessee 31-26)

A controversial ending, fans throwing objects on to the field and Lane Kiffin trolling. It’s what makes any Ole Miss football game great. And the now No. 12-ranked Ole Miss Rebels are on their way to having one of their best seasons since 2015. Still a Heisman Trophy favorite, Matt Corral threw for over 231 yards and two TDs in the win. Corral also ran the ball for 195 yards.

For a coach like Kiffin, it’s easy to see why he believes in his quarterback so much.

The Rebels will be taking on the LSU Tigers on Saturday.

  1. Alabama (6-1, beat Mississippi State 49-9)

Alabama got back on track after losing to Texas A&M on the road. It was a total defensive effort by the Crimson Tide as they held the Mississippi State offense to only 299 yards and forced three turnovers. Another Heisman Trophy favorite, Bryce Young, threw for 349 yards and four TDs.

The Crimson Tide play host to the Tennessee Volunteers this weekend.

  1. Georgia (7-0, beat No. 11 Kentucky 30-13)

The Bulldogs are far and away the best team in the nation. Allowing the Wildcats to 243 yards of total offense, there aren’t enough words to describe how good this team is. Along with the defense, there was another outstanding performance, this time by Stetson Bennett. He threw for 240 yards, three TDs and completed 70% of his passes.

The Bulldogs take on the Florida Gators in Jacksonville on Oct. 30. It’s sure to be a special game for fans and players.
