The Top 5 SEC teams after Week 8

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (BVM) โ€” Two of the top five teams were on bye this past week, but that didn’t stop the SEC from having an exciting week of action. Ole Miss beat up on LSU, Alabama dominated in Tuscaloosa and Texas A&M continued its winning streak.

Thereโ€™s a lot to look forward to this week, but before that happens, take a look at the top five teams in the SEC heading into Week 9.

  1. Kentucky (6-1, bye week)

Mark Stoops continues to do a great job with the now No. 12-ranked Wildcats. A team that continues to rely on Chris Rodriguez Jr. to run the ball has lofty expectations. But they continue to prove the doubters wrong.ย

After a loss to Georgia, the Wildcats will look to bounce back as they head into Starkville to take on the Mississippi State Bulldogs.

  1. Texas A&M (6-2, beat South Carolina 44-14)

Behind Devon Achane, the Aggies continued to roll. With 154 rushing yards and one touchdown, the now No. 14-ranked Aggies handed South Carolina its fourth loss of the season.

The Aggies have a bye this week before they play host to No. 18-ranked Auburn on Nov. 6.

  1. Ole Miss (6-1, beat LSU 31-17)

Heisman Trophy contender Matt Corral continued his special 2021 season for the Ole Miss Rebels this past weekend. This time he performed well against the LSU Tigers. Corral passed for 185 yards and one TD. He also rushed for 24 yards in the win.ย

The Rebels will aim to continue their winning streak as they take on the No. 18 Auburn Tigers in Oxford this week.ย

  1. Alabama (7-1, beat Tennessee 52-24)

It was another old-fashioned butt kicking in Tuscaloosa. Led by Bryce Young and Brian Robinson Jr., the now No. 3-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide handed Tennessee its third conference loss. Young passed for 371 yards and two TDs. Robinson rushed for 107 yards and scored three times.ย ย

The Crimson Tide will have bye week before they host LSU on Nov. 6.

  1. Georgia (7-0, bye week)

Itโ€™s here. Florida and Georgia will face off in Jacksonville in the classic rivalry game. Coming off a dominating performance against the Kentucky Wildcats, Kirby Smart and the No. 1-ranked Bulldogs will aim to continue their run for a national championship.ย

Florida beat Georgia by 16 points last season. But the Bulldogs defense will aim to keep the Gator offense at bay this weekend.ย
