REGINA, Saskatchewan — When it comes to the game of cricket, be ready for surprises. It does not matter how long a team has been in existence, a new team out of the blues can inflict a massive blow on older teams in the field of play.

One team that has been inflicting such blows is the Regina Royal Cricket Club. In just their eight years of existence, this team has inflicted massive blows on bigger teams that have been in the league since its inception. They have gone on to pick up hardware in just eight years, a feat that teams aged over 20 years have not even come close to winning.

A team with players like Yatin Patel, Ronak Vadsaria and Asif Prasala cannot go a season without shaking an opposing team. Just recently, they inflicted another blow against the Regina Rangers in the T20 finals in Sept. 2021 at Douglas Park, making them the current champions of the T20.

In 2019, they went all the way to the city of Saskatoon, where they played against the Saskatoon champions in their own home ground. They beat the Saskatoon Warriors to claim the Saskatchewan Provincial Champions title. In addition, they were the 2018 Regina champions.

The Regina Royal Cricket Club was formed in 2013. Where are other cricket clubs in Saskatchewan that existed before them? What are the Royals doing right that is making them create impacts in the game of cricket in Saskatchewan?

“Cricket Canada is ready to deliver a resounding success,” Ranjit Saini, president of Cricket Canada, said.

If there is a need for a cricket club in Canada that can bring about the resounding success talked about by Saini, it will be the Regina Royal Cricket Club. The Club’s president and founder, Anil Patel, is a visionary man whose mission is geared towards building on past success by developing an inclusive cricket club for cricket lovers of all levels.

In the past 10 years, Patel has been at the forefront of contributing to the game of cricket in Regina. When the Club started in 2013, it started with only one team, but by 2016, the Club has increased in number of teams. Today, they have the T10, T20, and ODP teams.

One reason for the successes of the Regina Royals so far is that it is one of the sports clubs in Canada operating on the principles of all-inclusiveness. As a multicultural club, it has been able to bring together different people from all around the world who are passionate about the game of cricket. This is a big advantage.

Fans of the sport are very certain that Regina Royals is one cricket club that can take cricket to another level, not just in Saskatchewan, but in the whole of Canada. If they can achieve all this in just eight years, imagine what they can achieve in 20 years.
