Enoch Showunmi is directing Naples United FC to soccer fame

NAPLES, Fla. — The Naples United Football Club is a relatively new program, as the semi-pro team started to play in 2017. The team plays at the Paradise Coast Sports Complex in Naples and competes in the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL), a fourth-tier American soccer league.

Naples United FC has been on the rise, as the team went 8-2 in 2019 with a +17-goal differential. The team also qualified for the US Open Cup in 2020, the most prominent cup competition in the United States.

The club is looking to make the next step forward and become a more competitive team in the NPSL. The club’s ultimate goal is to potentially reach the next tier of American soccer, whether it is the NISA or USL League One. One person who will be helping the team move forward is Enoch Showunmi, the club’s director.

As the club director, Showunmi’s role is to help review the players coming on the team. The directory identifies the best players for the club and the right coaches to help with training and making roster decisions. The director’s role involves all footballing efforts outside of daily coaching. The work can be instrumental in helping build a talented soccer side.

Showunmi has years of experience playing professional soccer and is aiming to help move Naples United FC forward. The English-born Showunmi was a forward with Luton Town from 2003 to 2006. He played in 102 games with the Hatters, who were in the EFL League One during his tenure. The league is the third level of competition in English soccer. Showunmi had fourteen goals with the club. The team also won the League One championship in 2005, allowing the club to move up to the EFL Championship.

Showunmi moved on to the EFL Championship, England’s second tier, in 2006. He competed in fifty games with Bristol City, plus he was on loan for ten games with Sheffield Wednesday. He scored thirteen goals in his three years with the team. The club struggled to stay in the championship and were relegated to League One, only to get back in the championship as the League One runner-up in 2007.

During his professional career from 2003 to 2015, Showunmi played in 344 games and had 53 goals. He also competed in two games with the Nigerian national team in 2004.

Showunmi has plenty of experience in soccer and understands how the game works and what it takes to win. His goal with the Naples United Football Club is to help the side become more competitive and to move to a higher level of competition.
