Keagan Trexler: Maryville’s latest bowling sensation

Keagan Trexler: Maryville’s latest bowling sensation

MARYVILLE, Mo. — Maryville University women’s bowling star Keagan Trexler had herself quite a day at the Bearcat Hammer Open tournament.

On October 23, the junior bowling sensation had the highest score for that day, which was the second day of the Bearcat Hammer Open. Her efforts resulted in her being named the MVP of the tournament. In five games, Trexler knocked down a total of 1,040 pins and averaged 208 pins per game, beating her competition from McKendree University by five pins to secure her win and take home the accolade.

But this isn’t Trexler’s first rodeo as an impressive bowling resume precedes her. She has been at this for years. She’s been knocking down pins since her days at Hamilton Heights High School in her hometown of Cicero, Indiana. While there, she was the high school girl high qualifier in the 2018 Hoosier Classic Eliminator. She also was the Northwest Indiana Junior Tournament Players Association Adult-Youth Champion in both 2018 and 2019, her junior and senior years at Hamilton.

Trexler would go on to compete in the NWIJTPA Greater Lafayette Open in 2019. During that season, she earned a conference high average and was the regional runner-up in that tournament. She earned plenty more accolades that season, too. She earned spots on the central All-Region team, the All-State first team, and the All-Tournament team. She also was the high school bowling state runner-up and the Indy Star Girls Bowler of the Year, while finishing third in the semi-state rankings.

Trexler ultimately committed to Maryville University in 2019, and last season in her second year on the bowling team, was named to the All-Conference second team in the Great Lakes Valley Conference and finished fourth in the Warhawk Bowling Classic.

Clearly, Trexler has carried her success from High School and from last season into this season. Her standout performance in the Bearcat Hammer Open helped propel the No. 15-ranked Saints to a sixth place finish in the tournament.

And if Trexler can continue her dominance when the Saints return to action for the Kat Klash 11 tournament and future tournaments, there is little doubt that she’ll be able to take home more accolades. She’s on a roll right now, and if she puts on another performance like she did in the Bearcat Hammer Open, she’ll only be adding to her already impressive bowling pedigree.
