Cardwell and Wright lead Countryside HS in Pinellas County aquatic championships
SAFETY HARBOR, Fla. — The Countryside High School girls’ varsity swim and dive team had a strong showing in the Pinellas County Aquatic Championships on Sept. 18.
Led by juniors, Gisella Wright and Summer Cardwell, the team took 1st place in three events – Wright’s 200 yard freestyle (1:54.57), Cardwell’s 500 yard freestyle (4:58.61), and the 200 yard freestyle relay (1:39.14). Additionally, the team placed 2nd in the 200 yard medley, a full two seconds behind Palm Harbor University High’s relay team.
Senior Abby Kantzler turned in a respectable 3rd place performance in the 100 yard butterfly (1:00.31) to round out a strong performance from the Cougar upperclassmen. Gisella and Summer are juniors with a lot of time left to develop. Both girls sport strong club outings alongside being a steady part of the Countryside team, ranking 3rd and 1st respectively in the Tampa Bay Aquatic Club.
The future is exciting. The only question left to ask: what university will they choose to swim at in 2023-2024?
