Look out for the Honey Deuces, a 4.0 USTA team, started by a Fair Haven native

FAIR HAVEN, N.J. — The United States Tennis Association (USTA) has over 320,000 tennis players participating each year and is the country’s largest adult competitive league. Not only is tennis an excellent way to get your workout in, but provides an opportunity to forge wonderful friendships. It was for that reason which brought Fair Haven’s Christine Braceland to start her own team. The aptly named Honey Deuces are a 4.0 USTA team. Christine further explains, “The 4.0 refers to their rating system that identifies tennis-playing ability from 1.5 (beginner) through 7.0 (touring pro).” Generally, most USTA leagues offer programs for the 2.5 through 5.0 levels.

The Honey Deuces took the lead in their division and attended sectionals over the summer in Schenectady, New York. “We won 17 out of our 20 matches. Before we even qualified for sectionals we had to win Regionals, which were played in Plainfield,” she says.

Women’s competitive tennis is the ideal sport for those who thrive on competition and camaraderie. The team now heads to Oklahoma City to compete in Nationals, representing the Eastern region of the United States. We can’t wait to hear how these ladies do.
