Fabian Loewe continues to swim his way to stardom

CANTON, Ohio – You’ve probably never heard of a young man by the name of Fabian Loewe, that is of course unless you closely follow the world of swimming. Loewe is a star in the making at the University of Malone in Canton, Ohio, and he’s only getting better. For his most recent honor, Loewe was named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference swimming and diving athlete of the week. It’s the third time this calendar year that he won the award.

Back in Feb. of 2021, Loewe won the award in back-to-back weeks, and ever since then, he’s continued to make waves, no pun intended. Young Fabian competes collegiately in both the breaststroke and also the freestyle competition. He’s only a junior in college and has at least one more year of swimming ahead of him. Perhaps the most impressive part about Loewe’s back-to-back wins in the month of February is the fact that he did it after not swimming competitively for an entire year.

Born and raised in Bannholz, Germany, Loewe got his start swimming competitively at Kolleg St. Blasien High School. Like most athletes, he’s got dreams of Olympic swimming and unfortunately for the U.S., it wouldn’t be for them. To earn his most recent swimming and diving athlete of the week award, Loewe was impressive, to say the least. Loewe picked up an individual win with a time of 56.59 in the 100-yard breaststroke. He also was a part of Malone’s 200-yard medley relay team which scored a first-place finish with a time of 1:40.67.

In his young and budding career, Loewe has been competitive when it comes to the big stage as well. The GAMC is comprised of some of the toughest Division II schools in the state of Ohio and the nation. In his sophomore year, Loewe and the Malone Pioneers actually competed in the Great Midwest Mountain East Conference Championships where Loewe garnered a pair of seventh-place finishes. These top two performances came in the 100-yard and 200-yard breaststroke competitions.

Just a year later, Loewe made vast improvements and went on to finish in the top five in multiple competitions once again. This time, however, it was done in the Great Athletic Midwest Conference. Fabian managed to finish second in the 100-yard breaststroke competition and fifth in the 200-yard breaststroke. He’s only a junior and has two more conference championships to work for and look forward to.

Only time will tell how much Loewe improves this year and moving forward.
